Holy Guacamole Gringos, corporate sponsored Valentine’s Day is here. Don’t know what to do for your special someone? Running low on your allowance and can’t afford a big downtown escapade? Here’s an idea — spend your Lover’s holiday, for relatively cheap, right here in Highland Park.
First stop — Dollar Tree. Money doesn’t grow on trees, but you can sure save some by shopping at Dollar Tree! (Damn I should garageband a jingle for them). Buy your gifts here then you won’t mind as much when your special someone throws it away.
Second Stop — A romantic dinner at Good Girl Dinette. Honestly the food here is just um, well it’s fine, and the service is um… but the ambiance is super hipster. And after all it’s not how you feel it’s how you look, and you’ll look super cool in one of their comfy chairs. You can talk really loud so the tables close to you will know just how cool you really are! The prices are adequate like 10 bucks plus for a bowl of noodle soup, but hey it’s Vietnamese comfort food, so that’s worth at least an extra 3 or 4 bucks right?
Next stop: The taco truck on Figueroa and Avenue 55 (in front of Fallas Parades parking lot). Let’s face it those Vietnamese are skinny for a reason. You’re going to still be starving after eating what Good Girl has to offer, so throw down a couple of bucks for some real good asada tacos at this truck run by two brothers. They are super nice and funny dudes.
Onward to: La Cuevita. It’s true we should buy stock in this place as we’re here all the time. The bar formerly known as the Cave is chill, cool and way less annoying then the bars on York. Plus sometimes the bartenders are so drunk they forget to charge you for drinks. Keep a tab on Daddy’s credit card and hopefully they’ll miss a few drinks for you too!
Finally: Back to your place or their place, turn on some R&B and do what young lovers do. (don’t forget to use one of those condoms you picked up at Dollar Tree along with that balloon arrangement.) Have Fun Gringos!
