Destination Public Transportation. Be Green Go Metro!

A few months back my reliable vintage Schwinn got swiped outside of the Short Stop in Echo Park.    But when life gives you lemons make mojitos, or is that limes?

Since that terrible thievery corporation happened I’ve been a regular on the Metro trains and busses.  My life is now much more stress free because of this.  Avoiding driving my car and for that matter my bike allows me not to worry about every Angelenos’ nightmare  — the DUI.  Yes bike buddys you can get cited for drunk biking, I’ve seen it happen.

Many Hipster Gringos have no idea about the metro system and where it can take you,  hell they don’t even know what a TAP card is.

One of the major draws of our fabulous hood is the gold line train.  In addition to the totally nice and not scarey gold line (which now runs til like 2am on weekends!) we also are blessed with the outstanding 81 and 83 busses that run 24 hours a day.  (There’s also the 256 bus but honestly I never use that one and don’t know where the hell it goes.)

Here’s a short list of some of the Hipster Gringos’ favorite spots you can reach on the Gold Line, the 81 or 83.

Golden Gold Line

Golden Gold Line

Gold Line:

Take it to Union Station switch to the Red Line to Sunset/Vermont and you’re walking distance to 4100, Intelligentsia and Akbar.

Take it to the Little Tokyo stop and you’re Arts District prime — grab a sausage, frys and PBR or 2 or 3 at Wurstkutche, and maybe learn how to pronounce it.

Take it north to the Del Mar station and you’re right close to a ridiculous Whole Foods. They got a  juice bar, a wine and tapas bar, AND craft beer bar.  Check it out (that is if you’re not protesting the store because of the comments of their Libertarian a-hole CEO).

Take the 81 south into Chinatown to check out the art galleries and grab a teeny weeny drink at Hop Louie.

Take the 83 to the Airliner on Broadway, get your groove on and top it off with some nachos at Carnitas Michoacan and be home in time for the after hour parties.

A drunken feast!

A drunken feast!

La Cita smoker's paradise

Take the 83 right to 4th and Hill.  It drops you off right at La Cita’s doorstep.  Enjoy their margaritas, dance floor and bomb ass outdoor patio, an American Spirit paradise.

These are just a few hot spots you have easy access to with the awesome public transportation here in Highland Park.  Be Green, while you save some Green, and hopefully smoke some Green!  Go Metro!
