Always one to support the community, I asked Kenzie S. if she wanted to be pedestrian like and take a walk up to York Avenue to see the ribbon cutting for the new ‘parklet’. She had nothing better to do she said, so we hurried on up there, not wanting to miss a thing.
There was a good crowd of hipster gringos shoulder to shoulder with some kids from Franklin which was nice to see. But if I’m being honest this parklet thing was a total bust. If it weren’t for some government official type speaking on the mic we wouldn’t have known where it was. It’s real ez to miss. Sure a parklet is a good step in the gentrification direction but as Kenzie S. put it, “they just put some 2x4s over the sidewalk and threw in some succulents from the 99¢ Store” (she loves that place now!).
When something is called a park or parklet, hipsters expect at least a tree or a bench, or maybe a benchlet. There was none of that. Plus who wants to sit out side an auto part shop; it’s like an outdoor waiting room in the DMV.
But all was not lost dearest gringos, because we did stumble upon a weed store that I’d never been to, and they gave me a free gram for being a first time customer. Gotta love it!
